Associate Systems Engineer

The Scoular Company•Omaha, NE

About The Position

Associate Systems Engineers support the integration design, testing, and ongoing development of the integrations platform connecting Scoular's business applications, trading partners, and data platforms. As part of an Agile Integration Team, the role works alongside senior integration engineers to build and maintain integrations using Azure Integration Services, monitor the existing integrations environment, and help triage and correct exceptions within short timelines. Scoular uses an AI-assisted SDLC, and this role develops fluency with Claude Code from the start, following the defined session lifecycle of kick-off, develop, code-review, build-check, and wrap-up. Development is on Scoular's .NET/C# and Azure stack, with code maintained in GitHub Enterprise. The role emphasizes source control, testing, understanding message formats and data mappings, reading and debugging code, and knowing when to escalate. It offers hands-on enterprise integration, API, and automation experience, with a foundation for growth into an Integration Engineer role.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a bachelor's degree.
  • Foundational understanding of integration concepts and data formats such as APIs, REST, JSON, XML, and flat files.
  • Willingness and aptitude to develop within an AI-assisted SDLC and use AI coding tools as part of daily work.
  • Ability to read, test, and understand AI-generated code before submission, with accountability for the work produced.
  • Willingness to learn and follow established standards, branching and review practices, and escalation paths.
  • Ability to troubleshoot methodically and follow issues through to root cause with guidance from senior engineers.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a small team and independently, and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Strong written communication skills, including clear, well-organized technical documentation.
  • Interest in current technology trends, integration best practices, continual process improvement, and responsible AI use.
  • Basic programming knowledge in C#/.NET or a comparable object-oriented language.
  • Familiarity with GitHub Enterprise for source control, pull requests, CI/CD pipelines, and security scanning.
  • Ability to use or learn Visual Studio and Visual Studio Code as standard IDEs and Microsoft Azure as the standard cloud platform.
  • Willingness to follow Scoular's Acceptable Use and ISO policies, including AI-specific controls.

Nice To Haves

  • 0–2 years of experience, including internships, coursework, or project work.
  • Exposure to AI coding tools such as Claude Code, including reviewing and testing generated code.
  • Exposure to Azure Integration Services such as Azure Logic Apps, Service Bus, API Management, Event Grid, Azure Functions, Azure Storage, or Azure SQL.
  • Coursework or project experience with XML, XSLT, XPath, XSD, REST, SOAP, or OAuth.
  • Exposure to JavaScript, PowerShell, or SQL scripting.
  • Experience with Agile Development and SCRUM delivery methodologies, or familiarity with the SDLC.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, test, and document integrations using Azure Integration Services and .NET/C# custom components, working with Claude Code within the defined session lifecycle.
  • Submit work through pull requests for required review, use approved packages and established scaffolding, resolve security scan findings before promotion, and read, test, and understand AI-generated code before submission.
  • Help monitor the integrations environment and applications, triage failed messages and exceptions, and troubleshoot production issues with guidance from senior engineers.
  • Escalate issues promptly, follow them through to root-cause resolution, and participate in L2/L3 support after delivery.
  • Collaborate with integration engineers, IT teams, business stakeholders, third-party vendors, and trading partners to understand requirements and communicate progress, risks, and issues.
  • Work with stakeholders and senior engineers to analyze integration requirements, document data mappings and message flows, and contribute to functional and technical designs.
  • Keep business context current in the repository to support AI tooling and future maintainers.
  • Follow change management processes by documenting changes, supporting scheduling and communication, and assisting with implementation and post-change validation through the DEV/QA/PROD path and CI/CD deployment.
  • Ensure work is tested and reviewed before production release.
  • Develop proficiency in Git and GitHub, development standards, integration patterns and protocols, message transformation, testing, and effective AI use.
  • Participate in enablement, paired mentoring, and peer reviews; use the Skills Catalog and shared prompt library; and share learning, including mistakes.
  • Support solutions aligned with Scoular's technical architecture, integration strategy, team standards, and SOPs, including read-only ODS consumption with write-backs through APIM only.
  • Follow AI-specific Acceptable Use and ISO controls, avoid placing sensitive or unmasked production data in non-production environments, and escalate situations not covered by documented standards.
