About The Position

In order to achieve its ambition of serving 80,000-100,000 Fellows over the next decade, Braven is hiring an Associate Software Engineer to help build the platform, tools, and automation that power Braven’s programs and keep students empowered, connected, and engaged. On the Systems team, we prioritize impact, ship the simplest thing that works, and iterate as we learn, keeping real impact on students’ lives ahead of elegant code. As an Associate Software Engineer, you will take well-scoped features from spec to production, write well-tested code, and help integrate the systems our programs rely on, growing your craft through code review and mentorship from senior engineers. This role is on the Systems team and reports directly to the Sr Dir, Software Engineering.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field, completion of a technical training program, or equivalent practical experience
  • At least 1 year of software engineering experience (academic, internship, bootcamp, or professional)
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Braven doesn’t offer employment visa sponsorship

Responsibilities

  • Implement well-scoped features, fixes, and automations in Python and/or Ruby on Rails, guiding them from clear specs to production.
  • Write and maintain tests for the code you ship, and debug issues in existing features, keeping the student end-user in mind.
  • Participate in Scrum, sprints, and code reviews, and apply feedback from senior engineers.
  • Document your work and keep code, data, and records clear, maintainable, and secure.
  • Build foundational software engineering practices and stay informed on industry trends, security, and data privacy.
  • Other duties as assigned
