About The Position

Red Hat is seeking an Associate Software Engineer to join their team. This role involves designing and developing server-side logic and modular software components for enterprise IT automation using Python and the Django web framework. The engineer will implement core backend functionality, including data models, views, and middleware. The position is permitted for telecommuting within normal commuting distance from the Red Hat, LLC office in Durham, NC.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree (U.S. or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
Writing and maintaining code, specifically for developing test cases and automated solutions.
Navigating command-line interfaces and managing files within Linux or UNIX environments.
Using Git or similar tools for version control, branching, and code collaboration.
Designing and maintaining automated test suites or infrastructure pipelines.
Following Agile ceremonies, including sprints and stand-ups.
Identifying, documenting, and investigating internal software bugs.
Documenting technical progress and system requirements within a collaborative development environment via pull request submissions and established acceptance criteria.

Responsibilities

Develop and maintain RESTful APIs using the Django REST Framework (DRF) to facilitate seamless communication between automation tools and enterprise IT systems.
Create and optimize scripts and workflows to automate routine IT tasks, such as server provisioning, configuration management, and system monitoring, to improve operational efficiency.
Write and execute unit tests and integration tests using Python testing frameworks (e.g., PyTest or Unit test) to ensure code reliability and adherence to functional specifications.
Participate in Agile development cycles and code reviews.
Maintain technical documentation for API endpoints, system architecture, and automation workflows for internal engineering use.
