Associate Scientist, Upstream MSAT

Sanofi•Framingham, MA
•$64,500 - $93,167

About The Position

The Associate Scientist is part of the Upstream team in the Recombinant Drug Substance function within Sanofi Global MSAT and is based at the Mammalian Platform hub in Framingham, Massachusetts. Global MSAT links R&D and Manufacturing and supports product life cycle management, technology transfer, process validation, dossier preparation, and pre-approval inspection support. The Recombinant DS function develops innovative, robust, and cost-effective next-generation processes, including second-generation mammalian manufacturing processes and continuous process platforms. The successful candidate will work with scientists and engineers to develop and characterize next-generation cell culture processes, transfer technology to manufacturing facilities, and support investigations and process improvements for commercial products. The role involves collaborating across functions and sites to solve complex problems in a fast-paced team environment. The work supports process robustness, process understanding, and next-generation processes for monoclonal antibodies and recombinant proteins.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, biology, biochemistry, or a similar or related field.
  • 0 to 5 years of hands-on experience in a laboratory, pilot, or manufacturing-scale environment for biologics products; relevant academic experience such as university projects, thesis work, or research will be considered.
  • Strong scientific background, technical writing, and presentation skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to work independently and in cross-functional, cross-site teams.
  • Flexibility to adapt to a fast-paced, goal-oriented environment and willingness to broaden skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on cell-culture experience, ideally in mammalian systems.
  • Experience in upstream process development, including process transfer, scale-up or scale-down, validation, or continuous process verification for mammalian-expressed proteins.
  • Experience with statistical analysis software.
  • Experience in cell-culture areas such as medium development, process analytical technology (PAT), cell banking, process intensification, computational modelling for biological systems, or laboratory equipment automation.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate within the Upstream group to execute and participate in the design of bench-scale experiments.
  • Design and conduct experiments, interpret data, and present results to department and project teams.
  • Present data and results within department and project teams.
  • Author internal procedures and technical reports.
  • Contribute to project teams conducting technology transfer to pilot-scale or commercial manufacturing.
  • Set up and maintain upstream laboratory equipment and systems, and provide training.
  • Analyze process-development and commercial-manufacturing data to improve process robustness, build process understanding, and develop next-generation processes for monoclonal antibodies and recombinant proteins.
  • Contribute to technical investigations of complex manufacturing deviations.
  • Help establish best practices and technical ways of working within development and manufacturing teams.
  • Collaborate with scientists and engineers across Sanofi’s biologics manufacturing network and with partnership organizations.

Benefits

  • Health and wellbeing benefits, including high-quality healthcare, prevention, and wellness programs.
  • At least 14 weeks of gender-neutral parental leave.
  • Employees may be eligible to participate in company employee benefit programs.
  • Rewards package that recognizes employee contributions.
