About The Position

Avantor is seeking an Associate Scientist - Downstream for the Bridgewater, NJ location. The Associate Scientist - Downstream will be responsible for the hands-on execution of laboratory experiments for the protein purification process and contribute to the development and optimization of processes.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or a related scientific field.
Hands-on experience with protein purification techniques and downstream processing preferred.
Familiarity with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and laboratory safety standards.
Strong background in molecular biology, biochemistry, or bioengineering.
Strong communication skills
Perform duties with the highest regard for safety and quality
Ability to understand and follow scientific protocols, policies and procedures
Must be flexible, forward-thinking, and motivated
Able to act independently and manage responsibilities while following scientific direction
Must be able to lift 25lbs minimum
Basic computing skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (or equivalent)
Skilled at prioritizing tasks, problem solving, and meeting deadlines
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team

Responsibilities

Executes and supports downstream purification (e.g. monoclonal antibodies, fusion proteins, etc.) on a bench-scale jointly with other scientists or independently.
Conducts pilot-scale material generations with the team.
Prepares and executes experimental protocols and analytical test methods under general guidance.
Accurately documents all procedures and observations
Maintains laboratory area, utilizes safe practices while working in the laboratory environment as per EHS guidelines and policy.
Perform bench-scale purification of biologics, such as monoclonal antibodies, bispecific, fusion proteins, or AAV, independently or in collaboration with other scientists.
Support pilot-scale material generation and assist in technology transfer activities.
Prepare and execute experimental protocols and analytical methods under general guidance.
Contribute to the development and optimization of downstream processes.
Identify and resolve process development challenges through data-driven experimentation and innovative thinking.
Analyze, interpret, and summarize experimental data.
Present findings clearly in team meetings and contribute to project decision-making.
Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments in accordance with SOPs.
Ensure accurate documentation of procedures and observations.
Assess Avantor’s technologies—such as chromatographic resins, process additives, and single-use technologies—for their effectiveness in biologics purification workflows.
Ensure all activities comply with safety, environmental, and quality standards and best practices.
