About The Position

We are seeking a highly motivated Associate Scientist to join the Discovery Sciences and Technologies (DST) Department to support small molecule and biologics drug discovery efforts in Virology, Oncology, and Inflammation. Members of the DST Department at Gilead are responsible for designing and executing rigorous, quantitative, and physiologically relevant biochemical, biophysical and cellular assays. They collaborate within multidisciplinary teams to discover and advance drug candidates - from lead identification at project inception to the characterization of final development candidates. The successful candidate will be an integral member of the DST research team and will work closely with various Research functions, including medicinal chemistry, structural biology, and protein therapeutics, to help advance transformational therapies into clinical development. Gilead is a highly matrixed organization, and the ability to work effectively across diverse functional groups and therapeutic areas is a key attribute for this role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, or a related field with a minimum of 4 years of relevant industry experience, OR
  • Master’s degree in biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, or a related field with a minimum of 3 years of relevant industry experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on research experience in small molecule drug discovery and/or biologics drug discovery.
  • Hands-on experience with biochemical, cellular, and in vitro pharmacology methods including, but not limited to, ELISA, TR-FRET/HTRF, MSD, enzyme activity assays, flow cytometry, cytokine release & other functional immune assays.
  • Experience with high-throughput screening, automation, and liquid handling systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced research environment.
  • Ability to serve as a technical resource for assay workflows, instrumentation, and training of junior group members.

Responsibilities

  • Independently design, optimize, validate, and execute biochemical and cell-based assays for small and large molecule drug discovery programs.
  • Generate high-quality experimental data, analyze and interpret results, and effectively communicate scientific findings to project teams and stakeholders.
  • Perform automation-enabled medium- to high-throughput screening.
  • Contribute to multiple concurrent projects and collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams.
  • Maintain accurate, well-organized experimental records, and prepare technical reports, summaries, and presentations.
  • Evaluate and implement new assay technologies and workflows to improve efficiency.
