About The Position

The Associate Researcher I is a laboratory research position, responsible for independent conduct of routine and standardized experiments. This individual assists in the interpretation of research outcomes, performs assays to support research studies, and assists in the clerical and supply aspects of the laboratory environment. We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Associate Researcher I to join our dynamic scientific team working to improve treatments for patients with rare metabolic diseases. In this role, you will provide critical laboratory support by executing core workflows in molecular biology, biochemistry, and mammalian cell culture. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career scientist to build deep technical expertise, contribute to cutting-edge research projects, and work collaboratively in a structured, fast-paced laboratory environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in science or related field required (Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology preferred)
  • No experience required.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and timelines simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
  • A high degree of reliability, attention to detail, and a strong problem-solving mindset.

Nice To Haves

  • One=two years of related research experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with aseptic technique and mammalian cell culture.
  • Familiarity with basic molecular biology methods (PCR, gel electrophoresis) and protein analysis (Western blotting).
  • Experience with transient transfections, lentiviral production, or fluorescence microscopy is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, passaged, and bank various mammalian cell lines using strict aseptic techniques.
  • Monitor cell health, perform cell counting, and prepare cells for downstream experimental assays (e.g., transfections, drug treatments).
  • Perform experimental assays with guidance of the PI.
  • Prepare standard cell culture media, reagents, and buffers.
  • Perform routine molecular biology techniques, including DNA/RNA extraction, PCR/qPCR, plasmid cloning, and gel electrophoresis.
  • Execute biochemical assays such as Western blotting, ELISA, SDS-PAGE, Western blotting and protein quantification (BCA/Bradford assays).
  • Assist in the preparation and characterization of biological samples.
  • Maintain a meticulous, up-to-date, and legally compliant Laboratory Notebook or Electronic Laboratory Notebook (ELN).
  • Analyze experimental data using software tools (e.g., Excel, GraphPad Prism, ImageJ) and present clear summaries to supervisors.
  • Ensure compliance with all laboratory safety guidelines, including hazardous waste disposal and biosafety level (BSL) protocols.
  • Assist with general lab maintenance, including restocking supplies, tracking inventory, and calibrating standard lab equipment (pipettes, centrifuges, incubators).
