About The Position

Responsible to assist contractors and reps with technical service on projects, addressing customer complaints and assisting the Quality Manager with additional quality activities. This role involves providing field support for contractors and reps to assist with the installation of structures, addressing field complaints in a timely manner, and maintaining a log for customer complaints and nonconformances. The position also includes visiting job sites to assist with issues, proposing and implementing corrective measures for nonconformances using the Eight Disciplines Problem Solving Process, and assisting with monthly reports for complaints and nonconformances. Audits of job packages, in-process and final inspections, and product to be shipped will be performed. The role will also make proposals for updates to the Quality Management System (QMS) and assist with R&D as determined by the Quality Manager. Recommendations for modifications to existing quality or production standards to improve processes will be made, and destructive and nondestructive tests will be performed. The Associate Quality Engineer will also assist with coordinating and maintaining approved fabricator status for municipalities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and at least 2 years of relevant experience (could include CAD, Solidworks, Graphic Design, installation of steel structures, etc.).
  • Competency with Microsoft Office applications and design software/CAD.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Strong mathematical background and good with measurement tools.
  • Ability to read and comprehend detailed instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write correspondences to internal employees as well as external parties that could include reps, contractors, and/or the end customer.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to reps, contractors, and/or the end customer as well as to other employees of the organization.
  • Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms.
  • Frequently required to sit and talk or hear.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and depth perception.

Responsibilities

  • Provide field support for contractors and reps to assist with the installation of structures.
  • Address field complaints in a timely manner and document occurrence, cause, and disposition.
  • Maintain a log for customer complaints and nonconformances.
  • Visit job sites and assist with addressing issues when appropriate that could include rework, installation, etc.
  • Assist in proposing and implementing corrective measures for nonconformances to address potential for recurrence utilizing the Eight Disciplines Problem Solving Process.
  • Assist with summarizing monthly reports for complaints and nonconformances.
  • Performs audits as determined by Quality Manager. Audits may include job packages (submittments and job paperwork), in-process and final inspections of fabricated parts, shop paperwork, and product to be shipped.
  • Make proposals for updates to the Quality Management System (QMS) and assist with updating the QMS as determined by the Quality Manager.
  • Interprets fabrication prints, schematic diagrams, or formulas and confers with management and engineering staff to determine quality and reliability standards.
  • Assists with R&D as determined by the Quality Manager.
  • Recommends modifications of existing quality or production standards to improve processes.
  • Sets up and performs destructive and nondestructive tests on materials, parts, or products to measure performance, life, or material characteristics.
  • Assist with coordinating and maintaining approved fabricator status for municipalities.
  • All other duties assigned by Manager.
