About The Position

The Associate Project Manager II will report directly to the Supervisor of the unit. Responsibilities include conducting field visits to identify deficient structural conditions, performing structural analysis, preparing design plans, and determining the scope of work. The role involves creating detailed sketches, designing repair protocols, maintaining an up-to-date record of outstanding repair requests, and ensuring timely repairs according to urgency and NYS DOT guidelines. This position requires routine communication with relevant DOT units and contractors to follow up on repair requests and ensure completion. The Associate Project Manager will supervise and manage the coordination of repair request work with external units, agency divisions, and governmental entities, confirming that repairs comply with required codes and standards. Additionally, the role involves reviewing preliminary design drawings for future maintainability, conducting field visits to NYSDOT and NYCDOT-owned structures, preparing responses to correspondence, making court appearances, providing affidavits, and offering testimony on behalf of the City. The position requires signing and sealing engineering and other official documents, as well as planning, guiding, and reviewing the work of subordinate engineers and staff. The role may require working evenings, nights, and weekends, and performing other related duties as necessary.

Requirements

  • Serving permanently in the title of Associate Project Manager II, or being reachable on the open-competitive list.
  • One year of full-time satisfactory experience in supervising employees performing project management work, such as planning, administering, managing, coordinating, or expediting, on engineering and/or architectural and/or landscape architectural projects, or supervising a construction project with a value of $1,000,000 or more.
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, engineering technology, architecture, landscape architecture, architectural technology, construction, construction management, construction technology, sustainable design, urban planning, urban studies, city planning, transportation planning, business administration, or public administration, AND one year of full-time satisfactory experience in project management work, such as planning, administering, managing, coordinating, or expediting, for engineering and/or architectural and/or landscape architectural projects.
  • OR a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent AND five years of experience in project management work, such as planning, administering, managing, coordinating, or expediting, for engineering and/or architectural and/or landscape architectural projects.
  • OR a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent plus any combination of college or university education and/or experience as described above to make up the equivalent of five years of education and experience.
  • One year of experience credit will be given for: each 30 semester credits of college or university education leading to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, engineering technology, architecture, landscape architecture, architectural technology, construction, construction management, construction technology, sustainable design, urban planning, urban studies, city planning, transportation planning, business administration, or public administration; a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in one of the disciplines described above; a Juris Doctor degree; or a valid New York State license as a Professional Engineer, Registered Architect or Registered Landscape Architect.
  • Experience which is primarily of a design nature is not acceptable towards meeting the qualification requirements.
  • In addition to meeting the qualification requirements for Assignment Level I, candidates must have at least one additional year of experience in a supervisory capacity or have served for at least one year as a project manager for a large and/or complex construction project.
  • In addition to meeting the qualification requirements for Assignment Level I, candidates must have at least two additional years of experience in a supervisory capacity or have served for at least two additional years as a project manager for a large and/or complex construction project.

Nice To Haves

  • NYS PE License with a Civil Engineering Degree.
  • Strong background in AutoCAD, Acrobat and MS office suite.
  • Ability to drive city owned vehicle.
  • Motor Vehicle Driver’s License valid in the State of New York.
  • Organized and able to effectively and professionally communicate.
  • Able to compose formal letters and emails.

  • Plan, guide, and review the work of subordinate engineers and other staff.
