Associate Project Engineer- Automation

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL)•Lewis Center, OH

About The Position

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) is hiring an Associate Project Engineer focused on automation. Automation projects collect data from system IEDs, implement logic controls, and present information that customers use to monitor and control power systems. Using real-time logic controllers and communications equipment, the engineer plans, designs, develops, tests, and commissions projects. Projects may involve communications network equipment; configuring real-time controllers as RTUs; HMI or server connections to upstream SCADA clients; custom logic for automatic system fault location, isolation, and restoration; and configuring workstations for power-system analytics software. The engineer provides technical leadership to support Project Managers and Salesforce with customer application planning, participates in customer meetings, researches SEL and third-party equipment and solutions, and explores operational-technology network architecture and emerging technologies. The role defines and oversees multiple objectives with minimal guidance and general high-level direction, and reviews and certifies project deliverables for quality before customer submission. Deliverables may include automation design specifications and drawings, product configurations, factory testing and procedures, field safety preparations and commissioning procedures, and service reports. The engineer also serves as technical lead for the project engineering team, defining deliverables, schedules, and execution from design through commissioning. Candidates at Associate through Engineering III level will be considered. The role requires willingness to travel domestically and internationally at least 20% of the time. SEL is 100% employee-owned and offers competitive pay and benefits, including retirement plans, insurance, paid holidays and leave, and employee development opportunities.
