About The Position

As Associate Program Manager for Camp and Teambuilding, at the Museum of Life and Science, you’ll bring creativity, organization, and a love of learning to some of the Museum’s most energetic programs.

Requirements

  • 3 years’ experience facilitating in an informal education or summer camp setting
  • Experience developing curriculum in informal education or summer camp settings
  • Passion for informal education, particularly related to science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), computational thinking, and/or design thinking
  • Ability to engage with children and adults in a friendly, professional manner
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Creativity, dependability, flexibility and enthusiasm
  • Experience managing a classroom or audience of children, young adult, or adult learners.
  • Must be able to travel distances of up to one mile over varying terrains and lift up to 25lbs
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to work some weekends, evenings, and holidays

Nice To Haves

  • College degree in a related subject
  • Experience managing seasonal staff
  • Experience in Summer Camp Leadership
  • Experience working in a museum or other informal educational setting
  • Fluency in language other than English (with particular interest in Spanish)
  • Experience working with children or adults with different abilities
  • Experience working with science professionals or academics
  • Experience with program evaluation

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Program Manager for Camps in development of a strategy and operational plan for camp programs and onsite classes, including caretaker and client communication, program structure, classroom management, and program policies.
  • Manage a team to develop Summer Camp curriculum, and serve as the primary curriculum writer
  • Act as Site Director for all Schools Out Camps as well as our Camp Curiosity Summer Camp Location.
  • Lead efforts in caregiver communication both in-person and virtually
  • Supervise and coach staff on best practices for caregiver communication, customer service, classroom management, conflict resolution, and pedagogy.
  • Lead training for staff on facilitation of activities and classroom management.
  • Serve as an Emergency Coordinator on the Museum’s Emergency Coordinator Committee
  • Provide ongoing support and feedback to staff working in camps and classes.
  • Manage a team of part-time staff and volunteers in delivery of camps and classes.
  • Assist in recruitment, candidate selection, onboarding and communication for over 60 seasonal summer camp staff
  • Manage day of and post-program logistics for TeamLab, our adult teambuilding program
  • Manage and facilitate the monthly Kids Night Out program
  • Facilitate TeamLab programs as assigned
  • Communicate and build relationships across departments to ensure quality program delivery.
  • Some evening and weekend hours required
  • Small Animal Handling (requires internal training and adherence)
  • Serve on Program Animal Committee
  • In accordance with the Museum’s Child Protection Policy, support the Museum’s child abuse prevention efforts, including awareness and implementation of practices that promote the safety and well-being of all children on the Museum’s campus
  • Standard CPR and First Aid Training
