The Department of Emergency Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks an Associate Professor in the non-tenure clinician educator track. The role combines teaching, clinical care, and scholarly work. Teaching may include bedside instruction for emergency medicine residents and students, as well as lectures, journal clubs, case conferences, simulation teaching, and small-group discussions. The department values enthusiasm and dedication to educating residents and students. Clinical responsibilities may include providing outstanding care to emergency department patients at one or more of four city hospitals: Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP), HUP at 54th and Cedar, Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, and Pennsylvania Hospital. Patients include those with high-acuity, complex conditions and those with less acute illnesses and injuries. Penn Presbyterian Medical Center is a Level 1 Trauma Center. Research or scholarship may include establishing a scholarly program in areas such as critical care, clinical patient-oriented research, health systems research, medical education, ultrasound, toxicology, emergency medical services, administrative leadership, global health, resuscitation, laboratory-based basic mechanisms of illness, or other emergency medicine-related subspecialties. Scheduled research effort is offset by establishing independent funding support. Promotion on the clinician educator track requires significant scholarly productivity.
