About The Position

The School of Accountancy (SOA) in the College of Business at the University of Louisville seeks qualified applicants for a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position. The anticipated start date is August 1, 2026; however, the start date is negotiable within the Fall 2026 semester based on the successful candidate’s availability and departmental needs. Appointment will be at the rank of Instructor, Assistant Professor Term, or Associate Professor Term, dependent upon academic credentials, qualifications, and experience. The expected teaching load is 24 credit hours per academic year. Salary is negotiable within the established salary band and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will teach face-to-face undergraduate and graduate accounting courses. Teaching assignments may include intermediate financial accounting, principles of financial accounting, taxation, commercial law, auditing, accounting information systems, managerial accounting, or other courses consistent with the candidate’s expertise and departmental needs. The successful candidate will also engage in service activities that support the mission of the SOA, the College of Business, and the University. Responsibilities include curriculum development, AACSB Assurance of Learning and accreditation activities, committee service, and serving as lead instructor for designated coordinated courses. Lead instructor responsibilities include developing and maintaining course materials, coordinating common course shells and instructional resources across multiple sections, and preparing common examinations.

Requirements

  • For appointment at the Assistant Professor Term or Associate Professor Term rank: A doctoral degree in accounting or related discipline with an undergraduate or graduate accounting degree, from an AACSB-accredited institution with a substantive in-residence doctoral component; OR A Juris Doctorate (JD) and/or an LL.M. in Taxation (to teach taxation courses).
  • Candidates who are ABD and expect to complete their degree before the appointment start date are encouraged to apply.
  • Capacity for effective classroom teaching.
  • A commitment to service.
  • For appointment at the Instructor rank: A bachelor's degree in Accounting (or an accounting concentration or the equivalent).
  • For appointment at the Instructor rank: A professional certification (e.g., CPA, CMA, CIA, CISA, or CFE).
  • For appointment at the Instructor rank: At least five years of progressively responsible professional accounting experience.
  • Demonstrated excellence in classroom teaching is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional certification (e.g., CPA, CIA, CMA, CFE) and significant professional experience are strongly preferred for candidates qualified to teach accounting courses.
  • Demonstrated experience serving in a lead instructor or course coordinator role is preferred.
  • Candidates qualified and interested in lead teaching roles for Commercial (Business) Law, Taxation, or Principles of Financial Accounting are especially encouraged to apply.
  • Candidates holding a JD who are qualified to teach commercial law are particularly encouraged to apply, as the ability to contribute to both the accounting and legal studies curricula is a significant advantage.
  • As a Carnegie R1 research university, demonstrated scholarly productivity or the potential to contribute to high quality research is considered a significant advantage at any rank but is not required.
