About The Position

N.C. A&T announces the national search for a Director of the Center of Excellence in Product Design and Advanced Manufacturing in the Division of Academic Affairs. The director will hold a faculty appointment at the associate professor or professor rank in a College or School most related to their academic and scholarly background. As Center Director, the reporting line will be to the Senior Vice Provost for Academic Affairs. The Center Director will take overall responsibility for all administrative and manufacturing related functions in the interdisciplinary center involving more than 25 faculty members from various disciplines. In this position, the Director will set policies, create and maintain budgets, and supervise the development, operation and maintenance of facilities. The Director will lead the research and development efforts around innovative and intelligent manufacturing methods, robotics and automation, lightweight materials technologies and applications, process and systems improvement, and direct digital technologies. In addition, the Center Director will be responsible for workforce development and manufacturing-related STEM education cultivating knowledgeable, skilled people for the future of North Carolina and U.S. manufacturing. The Center Director will work closely with local area community colleges and high schools to create awareness about advanced manufacturing.

Requirements

  • PhD degree in engineering/technology or related field with minimum of ten years or more industrial/academic/government research experience in the field of manufacturing.
  • A proven track record of successfully leading research programs and securing external funding
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience in project management
  • Experience in building collaborative teams
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills, with experience managing cross-disciplinary teams.

  • Prior Administrative/Leadership experience preferred
