The Faculty of Information and the Department of Italian, Spanish, Portuguese & Latin American Studies in the Faculty of Arts & Science at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure stream position in Italian cultural studies and history. This is a joint appointment (60% Faculty of Information, 40% Department of Italian, Spanish, Portuguese & Latin American Studies) at the rank of Associate Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2026. The role requires expertise in fascism and far right movements in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries; archival and historiographic methodologies; and the interplay of monuments, museums and memory studies. The successful candidate will be a leader in global and comparative research in these areas, including how ideologies are represented and contested in monuments and museums, how they relate to (mis)information in the public sphere, memory studies related to national narratives and heritage, and methodological expertise in archival research and historiography. The position also involves playing a leading role in envisioning, developing, and deploying innovative degree pathways between undergraduate and professional master programs.
