Requirements
- M.D. in ophthalmology.
- State license to practice and specialized training.
- Need to have a thorough understanding of eye anatomy, function, and disease.
- Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.
Responsibilities
- Prescribe corrective lenses, including eyeglasses and contact lenses
- Perform surgeries to correct eye injuries and conditions, such as cataracts
- Treat eye diseases, such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic eye disease
- Prescribe oral and topical medications to treat eye diseases
- Advise patients on proper eye care and maintain detailed medical histories
- Refer patients to subspecialty ophthalmologists for evaluations regarding eye surgery and/or long-term treatment.
