Associate Product Manager

About The Position

Tint is hiring an Associate Product Manager for a large, operationally complex product program. The role reports to the Staff Product Manager who owns the program and works day to day with a small engineering pod and teammates in operations, data, and partner-facing functions. The position also involves communication with external vendors, partner platforms, and the customers who purchase insurance. This is an entry-level, first product role focused on operational product support. The Associate Product Manager monitors product data, tracks and investigates issues, verifies engineering work against acceptance criteria, maintains accurate documentation and changelogs, and keeps internal teams and partners informed about changes. Prior product management experience, domain knowledge, a technical background, or a degree is not required; Tint will teach the product craft and domain. The role is fully remote, with a strong preference for candidates in the New York City, Seattle, or San Francisco Bay Area metros. The role requires the ability to travel for in-person collaboration roughly once per quarter.

Requirements

  • Evidence of working in an environment with meaningful stakes and standards, such as a substantive internship or experience in support, QA, operations, coordination, analytics, or a role with ownership of work.
  • Curiosity to investigate discrepancies, ask clarifying questions, and recognize when to escalate rather than continuing an investigation alone.
  • Ability to think through workflows end to end, anticipate edge cases, and notice confusing user experiences or customer-facing language.
  • Ability to work out the steps, stakeholders, and completion criteria for assigned work without needing every detail specified.
  • Comfort engaging with technical material such as dashboards, specifications, and logs, and communicating about issues with engineers; coding or a technical degree is not required.
  • Clear, precise, and concise written communication, with a habit of documenting decisions and work.
  • Reliability, follow-through, and ability to communicate openly on a fully remote team.
  • Ability to travel for in-person collaboration roughly once per quarter.
  • No degree, specific major, or prior product management experience is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to insurance, such as carrier, broker, MGA, claims, or policy administration work, or another regulated domain such as fintech.
  • Hands-on experience with an observability tool such as Datadog.
  • Formal or informal experience in a QA or testing role.
  • Experience owning work in issue trackers such as Linear, Jira, or similar tools.
  • Prior exposure to a recurring data feed from an external system.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor product data for volume, gaps, anomalies, and emerging issues; identify and report what changed and when.
  • Maintain accurate documentation as a source of truth, reconcile records with agreements made in discussions, and update internal and customer-facing changelogs after releases.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for operations bug reports and UI feedback; intake and reproduce issues, clarify them for engineering, and close the loop with operations.
  • QA engineering work before release by testing against ticket acceptance criteria, identifying mismatches between intent and implementation, and raising concerns.
  • Maintain ticket and project hygiene, including clear tickets, accurate statuses, and surfacing stale or blocked work; flag blockers early to the Staff Product Manager.
  • Investigate issues using logs, dashboards, and observability tools; collect evidence and context to help engineers diagnose problems.
  • Trace workflows end to end and identify edge cases, confusing user flows, and unclear error messages.
  • Determine what work requires, who needs to be involved, and what conditions must be met before it is complete; find alternative ways to get answers when tools are insufficient.
  • Document decisions and work clearly in tickets, changelogs, bug reports, escalations, and call notes.
  • Keep operations, engineering, the product manager, and other stakeholders informed, provide reliable answers, and follow through on commitments.

Benefits

  • Flexible working across time zones, with a home office stipend and co-working reimbursement.
  • Unlimited vacation.
  • Salary plus equity.
  • Flexible spending account (FSA) and 401(k).
  • Tint covers 100% of employee and dependent premiums for medical, vision, and dental insurance.
  • Company retreats held in person twice a year.
