About The Position

The Faulkner Focus is seeking a creative, thorough, and hardworking Freelance Associate Producer. The role writes accurate, concise scripts that tell engaging stories and helps select story elements in a collaborative team environment. The producer should be well-versed in politics, domestic and foreign policy, cultural issues, and current events, while remaining curious about other topics. The role may also take on additional responsibilities based on the producer’s talents and abilities.

Requirements

• Experience in television news.
• Strong knowledge of news, politics, and current events.
• Ability to understand story angles and nuances and translate them into compelling copy and banners.
• Familiarity with popular influencers, outlets, columnists, commentators, and opinion makers.
• Ability to work collaboratively under intense deadline pressure.
• Ability to work independently and make smart, proactive decisions.
• Ability to work weekends and overnight hours.
• Creativity and the ability to think outside the box.
• Willingness to listen, learn, and grow from constructive criticism.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Write stories, guest introductions, teases, and banners.
• Adapt and update stories quickly as news breaks and new elements become available.
• Manage time effectively, get started quickly each morning, and meet strict deadlines.
• Take on additional stories as news warrants and contribute in the control room during breaking news.
• Pitch unique guests, stories, and segments.
• Conduct in-depth research on assigned stories and the news of the day.
• Select and suggest sound, video, and graphic elements to help tell stories, collaborating with video/elements PAs.
• Take on additional responsibilities based on individual talents and abilities.
