About The Position

The position of Assistant Principal supports the building principal in the day-to-day operations of the building and overall school programs in achieving the goal of equitable outcomes for all students, especially for those that are underserved.

Requirements

  • Experience in working with diverse communities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with groups and individuals inside and outside of the organization.
  • Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where direction may not always exist.
  • Demonstration of leadership and management abilities.
  • Understanding of current educational theory, practice and trends in student management, curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with trauma informed and restorative practices.
  • Knowledge and experience in research based instructional practices and strategies.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with IEPs, 504s, ELLs and other federal programs and services.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with school finance and best practices.
  • Demonstrate advanced organization and communication skills to work with diverse students, parents, and staff.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual, bicultural and biliterate abilities in English and Spanish or other languages related to the student and family population of the District.
  • Understanding and knowledge of the Culturally Responsive Teaching Framework.
  • Demonstration of a strong equity lens and knowledge of culturally responsive practices.
  • Experience creating and leading the implementation of Behavior Support Plans.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with the planning, implementation, and evaluation of educational staff and programs.
  • Administer comprehensive student discipline and attendance program; assure stakeholder input in the planning, implementation and evaluation of the program.
  • Collect, interpret, monitor and utilize quantitative and qualitative data to improve student instructional, attendance, and student management programs outcomes especially for marginalized students.
  • Assures the safety and welfare of all students.
  • Support and participate in federal programs and services such as IEPs, 504s and English Language Learners.
  • Assist with the building of schedules such as master, lunch/recess, duty and the like.
  • Assist in providing systematic supervision of the internal budget and accounting procedures.
  • Assist in approving purchases and expenditures and monitor compliance with approved budgets.
  • Assist with the management and care of the school plant equipment and materials.
  • Assures that students are provided academic and counseling support.
  • Assist in the facilitation of meetings with a variety of stakeholders including student-parent-teacher conferences.
  • Assist with planning and implementation of programs for parent groups, community agencies, and promote culturally responsive public and school-community relations.
  • Assure that accurate records are kept on all students by establishing procedures for gathering and recording information in accordance with state and district requirements.
  • Refer students as appropriate to community agencies and special education services as needed.
  • Assist in the coordination of hiring, onboarding, and in-service training and ongoing staff development of staff.
  • Maintains integrity of confidential information relating to students, staff, or district patrons.
  • May serve as lead building administrator in the absence of the principal.
  • Reports to and keeps building principal updated and informed.
  • Supervise students during extracurricular, evening, and non-instructional activities such as bus loading, lunch, and transitions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
