About The Position

The Associate Pastor role is a full-time, pastoral position focused on shepherding and oversight of congregation members within a specific geographic region at the Tysons location. This role involves leading under the authority of Christ, caring for the body of Christ, teaching the Word of Christ, and modeling the character of Christ. The primary method of shepherding will be through Church Groups, with an emphasis on relational leadership, pastoral care, and fostering spiritual growth. While there are opportunities for teaching in classroom settings, this role does not include preaching responsibilities. Individuals filling this role must meet biblical qualifications for a pastor/elder/overseer.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two years of Pastoral experience in a Church setting
  • Commitment to a long-term pastorate
  • Ordination or eligibility for licensure
  • Ability to teach in small and large group settings
  • Pastoral skills: home and hospital visitation, handling of weddings and funerals
  • Basic pastoral and biblical counseling experience
  • Ability to recruit and develop leaders and teams
  • Passion for serving the church
  • Ability to organize and prioritize responsibilities
  • Ability to exercise biblical wisdom and sound judgment regarding matters of significance within the church
  • Ability to identify critical information and respond accordingly with wisdom and grace
  • Must be able to read, speak, and hear.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Regularly required to sit, talk, hear, walk, bend, kneel, and lift.
  • Occasionally required to use stairs.
  • Required to be able to lift and carry items that can weigh 25 pounds or more for short distances.

Nice To Haves

  • A Master of Divinity or its equivalent preferred from an accredited Seminary or School of Theology

Responsibilities

  • Identifying, mobilizing, and leading a team of Church Group pastors, coaches, and leaders within the region.
  • Leading, assessing, and equipping current Church Group leaders.
  • Identifying, training, and mobilizing Church Group members and leaders to meet physical and practical needs within the region.
  • Providing ongoing communication to members and leaders in the region.
  • Meeting regularly with staff and Church Group pastors, coaches, and leaders for discussion and training.
  • Praying consistently for leaders and members within the region.
  • Regularly checking in on specific members regarding their lives and spiritual health.
  • Reserving weekly time for pastoral and biblical counseling sessions.
  • Mediating disciplinary issues and providing clarity on church doctrine and strategy.
  • Responding to and providing support for weddings and funerals.
  • Conducting baptism and membership interviews and facilitating new member connections.
  • Leading a Church Group consisting of church members within the region.
  • Teaching and leading in various classes, workshops, trainings, and studies.
  • Serving occasionally in weekend worship gatherings.
  • Constantly growing in understanding and application of the Bible and theology.
  • Living an exemplary Christian life and modeling the character of Christ.
  • Pursuing intimacy with the Lord through daily devotion, intercession, worship, and service.
  • Making disciples of all nations.
  • Representing the doctrine, mission, vision, and goal of McLean Bible Church.
  • Participating in large/central events at the Tysons location.
  • Participating in ongoing trainings, meetings, and activities for MBC Staff and Leaders.
