About The Position

The OB Tech supports the labor and delivery team by assisting with surgical procedures, maintaining a sterile environment, and providing patient care support in accordance with established protocols. This role ensures the availability and cleanliness of equipment and supplies, and performs clerical tasks to facilitate efficient unit operations. Performs other duties as assigned. All job responsibilities are to be carried out in alignment with Kettering Health's mission, vision, values, and B Safe program.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Passes pre-hire employment tests
  • One year experience as a nursing assistant or OB tech in a hospital setting required
  • Certification in CPR
  • OR skills
  • Customer service skills
  • Able to multitask, prioritize and function in a high stress environment
  • Basic computer knowledge and keyboarding skills
  • Knowledge of sterile technique and infection control
  • Ability to assist with surgical procedures and patient care tasks
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams
  • Attention to detail and organization
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations
  • Physical ability to lift, move, and position patients and equipment as needed

Nice To Haves

  • Obstetrical experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist obstetricians and nurses during labor, delivery, and surgical procedures, including cesarean sections, by preparing and passing instruments and supplies.
  • Maintain a sterile field and adhere to infection control protocols throughout all procedures.
  • Prepare, clean, and restock labor and delivery rooms, operating rooms, and equipment before and after procedures.
  • Transport patients, specimens, and equipment within the unit as directed.
  • Monitor and document patient vital signs and report changes to nursing staff as appropriate.
  • Provide emotional support and basic comfort measures to patients and families.
  • Perform routine equipment checks and ensure all supplies are available and within expiration dates.
  • Assist with patient positioning, prepping, and draping under the supervision of licensed staff.
  • Complete clerical duties such as updating patient records, scheduling, and managing unit communications.
  • Comply with all safety, regulatory, and organizational policies, including HIPAA and OSHA standards.
