This is the entry level into the Nuclear Chemistry Technician series. Incumbents will take part in classroom and practical training, maintaining acceptable academic standards throughout the program. Employees new to the role will participate in training consisting of station orientation, chemical sampling procedures, gas and water testing methods, and identification and review of periodic tests. Will also learn basic chemistry fundamentals, appropriate use of human performance tools and basic laboratory practices such as pH, conductivity, and balance operation. Collect chemical samples from various plant systems. Perform gas and water tests in conjunction with the training program. Perform basic chemical tests and analyses in conjunction with the training program. As training program progresses, responsible for performing tasks to determine the presence and activity levels of radiation and various gases, acids, bases, salts, and metals. The incumbent will work independently in those areas trained and qualified. Collect chemical samples from various plant systems. Perform gas and water tests in conjunction with the training program. Perform basic chemical tests and analyses in conjunction with the training program. Later in the training program, responsible for collection of samples from primary and secondary plant system. Performs tests on samples to determine the presence and activity levels of radiation and various gases, acids, and metals to ensure proper chemistry is maintained to prevent corrosion of plant systems and technical specification violations. Collect water samples from various plant systems, including those in high radiation areas, for necessary analyses. Operate and maintain the on-line chemical monitoring system. Add chemicals to plant systems to maintain plant system integrity. Track and enter data analysis information into the mainframe computer. Maintain and calibrate data recording devices.
