About The Position

The Associate Maintenance Programs Engineer supports the Maintenance Programs Team within Technical Operations (Tech Ops) by assisting in the development and optimization of Southwest Airlines’ scheduled maintenance programs. They’ll provide engineering support through documentation, data analysis, and regulatory alignment while gaining exposure to OEM standards, internal procedures, and maintenance program processes. They’ll partner with Stakeholders across Tech Ops to analyze data, identify trends, and support maintenance optimization efforts using tools such as Excel, Alteryx, SQL, and VizQL. The Associate Maintenance Programs Engineer brings strong analytical and problem-solving skills, along with an engineering mindset, to support data-driven decisions and contribute to the safety, compliance, and reliability of Southwest’s fleet. Due to the nature of this role, you would be required to work from our Dallas, TX headquarters facility during business hours. Requirements

  • Foundational understanding of aircraft systems, technical documentation, and maintenance program structures
  • Foundational in interpreting regulatory, OEM documentation, and Engineering documents, such as but not limited to AMM, IPC, ADs, SBs, STCs, Engineering Orders, Design Drawings
  • Foundational in interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to lead, influence, collaborate, and adapt within cross-functional team environments; consistently effective under pressure and within proposed deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented with a willingness to follow established processes
  • Basic technical comprehension
  • Ability to collect, organize, visualize, and assimilate data, including turning raw data into meaningful information, using data-oriented programs and visualization software
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Familiarity with Alteryx, SQL, or VizQL coding languages
  • Team-oriented with eagerness to learn and take initiative
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments
  • Required: High School Diploma or GED
  • Required: Bachelor of Science in an ABET accredited course of study in Engineering
  • Entry-level experience, developing skills, and knowledge in: Aircraft Systems, Aircraft Maintenance, and Maintenance Programs
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a SIDA badge and meet all local airport requirements
  • Ability to perform work duties from [limited space work station/desk/office area] for extended periods of time
  • Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
  • Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job
  • Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Must meet confidentiality expectations as to confidential, proprietary and sensitive Company information

Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing, formatting, and updating maintenance-related technical documentation
  • Assist with gathering and analyzing aircraft reliability data to identify trends, system degradations, and opportunities for maintenance optimization
  • Participate in the development and substantiation of maintenance tasks for implementation into the SWA maintenance program
  • Participate in activities related to various types of cost/benefit analysis
  • Collaborate with other departments such as Planning, Supply Chain, Quality, Production and other Stakeholders for impact driven from maintenance program changes
  • Support the implementation of document change requests and OEM document revisions
  • Interpret basic technical content with guidance and support
  • Support Station visits, as required, to support Maintenance Programs
  • May perform other job duties as directed by Leadership
