About The Position

The Associate Merchant supports category management by assisting with supplier negotiations, purchase order administration, and item setup for both stores and online channels. This role collaborates cross-functionally to ensure accurate product content, supports promotional activities, and leverages data analysis to inform business decisions. The Associate Merchant contributes to budgeting, forecasting, and modular assortment execution while maintaining strong vendor relationships. This position requires a focus on delivering a seamless customer experience through effective communication and operational support, aligning with Walmart’s commitment to integrity, continuous improvement, and value creation. The Associate Merchant team plays a key role in delivering the right products and value by supporting category strategy, assortment planning, and supplier relationships. This team collaborates across departments to analyze business performance and customer needs, ensuring relevant and accessible product assortments. Focused on enhancing the shopping experience, the team drives merchandising decisions that improve sales and customer satisfaction. Members leverage data analysis and market insights to support supplier management and execute effective category strategies, contributing to Walmart’s commitment to providing affordable and convenient options for customers.

Requirements

Proven experience in vendor relationship management and supplier negotiations within a retail or e-commerce environment.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to leverage data analysis and visualization tools to inform business decisions.
Expertise in category strategy development, product assortment, and pricing to support sales and inventory goals.
Effective communication and collaboration skills to work cross-functionally with merchants, suppliers, and internal teams.
Ability to manage purchase orders, resolve supplier issues, and support item setup for both stores and online channels.
Proficiency in budgeting, forecasting, and tracking category financial performance aligned with organizational targets.
Project management capabilities to support feature execution, modular assortment, and promotional activities.
Bachelor’s degree OR 2 years’ experience in merchandising, buying, financial planning, operations, or related area.

Responsibilities

Support merchants in supplier negotiations and manage purchase orders for assigned categories.
Assist in resolving supplier issues and facilitate the setup of new suppliers for stores and online channels.
Execute customer communication and education programs, collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance shopper experience.
Analyze sales and category performance data to support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
Implement approved promotional features and modular assortment strategies across channels.
Maintain accurate product content and search query quality to optimize online merchandising.
Provide expert guidance on item setup, pricing, and inventory allocation decisions.
