Associate Medical Assistant
About The Position
As a Medical Assistant at Optum, you will work alongside health care experts in a clinical setting to provide high-quality direct patient care. You will build relationships with patients, their family members, health care providers, and office staff. The role includes patient contact in person, by telephone, and electronically; gathering and documenting patient information; assisting with procedures; coordinating care; and maintaining patient rooms and equipment in accordance with protocols and infection-control practices. The position offers development opportunities and clear direction for success.
Requirements
- Completion of a Medical Assistant program.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA), or willingness to obtain it by the date of hire.
- Medical Assistant experience.
Nice To Haves
- Phlebotomy certification.
- Electronic Medical Records (EMR) experience.
- Bilingual English and Spanish.
Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality patient care through face-to-face, telephone, and electronic contact for examinations, treatment, monitoring, and preparation for diagnostic tests or procedures.
- Collect and document patient information, including vital signs, chief complaints, medication and allergy reviews, health risk screening information, extended care benefit status, and other services.
- Assist physicians and nursing personnel with injections, EKGs, phlebotomy, and other patient care procedures as directed.
- Coordinate patient care as directed by physicians and in accordance with company standards and policies.
- Assist with tasks, phone calls, and messages, and document all actions taken.
- Complete concise and thorough EMR and paper-based documentation for assessments and procedures.
- Prepare and clean patient rooms and set up instruments and equipment according to protocol while maintaining infection control.
