Associate Laser Systems Engineer

Infleqtion•Boulder, CO
•$90,000 - $110,000

About The Position

Within Infleqtion’s Quantum Computing Product Group, the Hardware Engineering Team is seeking an Associate Laser Systems Engineer for neutral-atom quantum computing hardware. The role involves carrying out well-defined laser assembly, characterization, and control tasks while building practical judgment through laboratory work and design reviews. Dedicated time for technical learning and hands-on training is provided, with regular guidance from experienced engineers. Work is normally performed in an office and laboratory environment around technical equipment, including computers and lasers. Up to 10% travel may be required. The position may require access to information protected under U.S. export control laws and regulations; an employment offer may be conditioned on authorization to receive controlled software or technology without sponsorship for an export license.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in optical engineering, physics, electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • Understanding of laser and optical fundamentals, including beam propagation, polarization, interference, and frequency.
  • Hands-on practice assembling an optical or electro-optical setup and taking measurements while following laboratory safety procedures.
  • Practice interpreting detector signals and explaining how gain, noise, and negative feedback affect a measurement or control loop.
  • Experience analyzing measurements, comparing them with predictions, and explaining differences using calculations, spreadsheets, or scripts.
  • Experience keeping accurate setup and measurement records, checking work for errors, and flagging unexpected results.
  • Experience explaining technical work clearly, raising questions or problems early, and incorporating feedback.

Nice To Haves

  • Project experience with laser characterization, optical modulation, or feedback control.
  • Experience using Python or comparable tools to collect and analyze laboratory data.
  • Experience with atomic spectroscopy, optical resonators, or low-noise photodetection.
  • Coursework, laboratory classes, research, internships, and projects may demonstrate the relevant skills; preferred qualifications are helpful but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble and align assigned laser paths using reviewed layouts and laser-safety procedures.
  • Calculate expected power levels and frequency shifts for assigned setups and compare predictions with measurements.
  • Measure laser power, polarization, beam profiles, and short-term stability against provided acceptance criteria.
  • Set up detectors, modulation stages, and feedback controls using reviewed procedures; record their response and operating settings.
  • Work with engineers to isolate alignment, signal, or lock problems, test fixes, and flag issues beyond the assigned scope.
  • Record setup changes, measurements, and test conditions so others can reproduce the work; submit procedure improvements for review.
  • Plan assigned tasks, report progress and blockers, and incorporate feedback from design and test reviews.
  • Use required personal protective equipment properly in accordance with company requirements.
