About The Position

Westerkirk Capital Inc. (‘WCI’), a private investment company based in Victoria, BC is seeking an Associate Investment Operations & Reporting. The organization is a single-family office investment enterprise managing assets via internal direct and third-party/external managers across a variety of portfolios and asset classes including fixed income, public equity, private equity, hedge funds, infrastructure, and real estate. This role will be responsible for supporting WCI’s Investment Operations, as well as Reporting and Risk teams, with operations focused data analysis, report preparation and review, trading and settlement, as well as controls and compliance for special purpose and family-related investment portfolios, in addition to owned businesses. The successful candidate must be able to thrive in a dynamic environment with changing priorities and is a self-starter who takes initiative. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, mathematics, sciences, or related field.
  • Minimum 2-5 years experience required, ideally in an investment operations role; however corporate financial analysis, accounting and / or consulting experiences are also considered assets.
  • Understanding of investment operations, compliance, risk and reporting principles and practices.
  • Ability to identify and communicate issues affecting investment operations, compliance, risk and performance reporting.
  • Independently driven and detail oriented.
  • Excellent quantitative, analytical, problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to cultivate partnerships and work collaboratively in a team environment with both internal and external partners.
  • Commitment to high ethical standards as well as a positive, cooperative attitude.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA, CFA, CAIA, CIPM, FRM, PRM, CCO or equivalent designations are considered an asset.
  • Experience with Addepar, Bloomberg, FactSet and MS Office preferred.
  • Coding experience (Python, R, SQL, Excel VBA) considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Support portfolio rebalancing, exposure measurement and implementation workflows across public and private market portfolios.
  • Support internal public equity and fixed income trading programs, including trade capture, settlement monitoring, exception resolution and post-trade documentation.
  • Manage day-to-day portfolio liquidity, including FX execution, short-term investments, cash forecasting and coordination of funding requirements.
  • Reconciliation of cash balances, positions, transactions and exposures across various systems.
  • Maintain data quality in reporting and risk systems, improving system workflows, researching technology solutions, and helping implement reporting, automation and control enhancements.
  • Prepare portfolio performance, position, exposure, liquidity and risk reporting for review by investment operations, risk/reporting managers and senior stakeholders.
  • Maintain tools, data sets and workflows across reporting, risk, accounting and custodian systems, including supporting data quality controls and reporting.
  • Prepare materials for internal and external meetings, including investment, risk, operations and manager review meetings.
  • Operational due diligence coordination for new and existing external managers, including collection of operational materials, review checklists, onboarding workflows and coordination with legal, finance, tax and accounting.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve accuracy, scalability, control design and reporting efficiency within an investment compliance framework.
