About The Position

The Tennessee College of Applied Technology Murfreesboro is accepting applications for the full-time position of Cosmetology instructor for the day program to be located at the Murfreesboro Campus. This full-time position entails a commitment of at least 37.5 hours per week (Monday – Friday; 7:30am – 3:30pm), in person, providing individualized classroom and lab instruction to high school and adult students in all phases of Cosmetology program. The Cosmetology Technology faculty member reports to the Vice President of Instruction and Accreditation.

Requirements

  • Technical diploma in instructional area or equivalent higher education with credentials in related field.
  • Valid Cosmetology License.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in the Information Technology field, preferably within the last five (5) years.
  • Must possess a high degree of knowledge in network administration, PC hardware, systems analysis, and software.
  • Current CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+ certifications and Microsoft certifications or the ability to become certified with twelve (12) calendar months.
  • The instructor must have good communications and computer skills and be willing to remain current in the field.
  • Must possess the communication skills necessary to be an effective teacher and interact with high school and adult students.
  • Must possess knowledge of the principles and practices of the industry and occupation.
  • Must possess knowledge of computers including Microsoft Office and other appropriate software needed for the teaching profession.
  • Ability to deal tactfully with the public and co-workers.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a commitment to student success.
  • Provide a safe and stable learning environment.
  • Actively promote the program to high schools and the community.
  • Prepare curriculum as defined in the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) and Council on Occupational Education (COE) approved list.
  • Deliver instruction according to prepared lesson plans.
  • Record and submit attendance (tardiness and absences) daily.
  • Provide assessments and report grades as required by the institution.
  • Meet and counsel students on academic issues.
  • Perform student surveys each trimester.
  • Supervise and follow-up on students who are participating in Work-based Learning and/or internship programs.
  • Meet and collaborate with industry leaders on technology advances related to the program and occupation.
  • Hold meetings for the program’s advisory committee to ensure the program is in line with industry standards and trends.
  • Communicate with administration and student services about pending student discipline issues.
  • Adhere to the school calendar and daily class schedule.
  • Set the example of professionalism for the classroom and instill worker characteristics throughout.
  • Ensure program aligns with all TCAT Murfreesboro, TBR, and COE policy requirements.
  • Submit Purchase Orders for equipment and supplies needed for the program.
  • Other duties as assigned.
