About The Position

WSP is seeking an Associate Industrial Hygienist for its Mining Industrial Hygiene practice. This role will offer technical support for various Industrial Hygiene (IH) and Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) projects, focusing on IH assessment planning, fieldwork, sampling, reporting, and client communication. The position is based in the Lakewood, CO office and requires periodic travel within the United States to client sites, with an anticipated 50% of time spent at client locations. The role involves conducting assessments at industrial facilities, which may include physical demands such as climbing ladders, walking stairs, and carrying equipment. The Associate Industrial Hygienist will be part of the Earth & Environment Team, contributing to diverse projects within the mining industry and potentially other sectors like renewable energy, manufacturing, transportation, and government agencies. Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Industrial Hygiene, or Safety Engineering, or other related discipline.
1 to 3 years of experience working as an Industrial Hygienist.
Proficiency with IH sampling techniques and equipment.
Familiar with relevant occupational health and safety laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
Working knowledge of OSHA and MSHA environmental laws and regulations.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a scientific and non-scientific audience.
Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
Applicants must be able to work in locations that feature the rough terrain typical of mine sites and to enter and work within facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities.
Must have strong analytical skills and be able to solve problems independently, using knowledge gained from increasing experience.
Self-sufficient, self-motivated and ability to work under pressure of deadlines.
Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.
Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies.
Proficiency with business writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.
Proven track record of upholding workplace health and safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Occasional travel will be required. Amount of out of town travel could reach 50% of time, depending on project-specific requirements.

Nice To Haves

An interest in pursuing professional certification or license (CSP, CIH, PE, CHMM or equivalent) is desirable.
Master’s Degree in Public Health, Industrial Hygiene, or Safety Engineering, or other related discipline.

Responsibilities

Take the lead in IH-related field assignments such as performing industrial hygiene monitoring, noise assessments, hazardous materials surveying and abatement monitoring, indoor air quality assessments, chemical inventory assessments, ergonomics assessments, job hazard assessments, and similar assignments.
Assist senior staff in conducting EHS audits and EHS program development.
Collect and document field data and observations in a clear and organized manner utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment and workspace monitoring equipment.
Analyze, evaluate, and interpret field and analytical data obtained during field investigations.
Evaluate findings, make recommendations, and prepare written and verbal reports.
Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, accurate reports, and illustrations.
Write technical reports summarizing research with findings and conclusions, generating complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems, field/work site notes, and software.
Work with cross-functional teams in executing project work.
Complete training on assigned tasks.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
