About The Position

The Associate – Self-Contained Classroom is a member of the Special Education team and provides instructional, behavioral, and social-emotional support to students with disabilities in a self-contained classroom. Working under the direction of the Special Education Lead Teacher, the Associate helps implement individualized instruction, reinforces IEP goals, and contributes to creating a structured, safe, and inclusive learning environment where all students can thrive.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree, 48 college credits, or equivalent experience.
  • At least one year of experience working with children ages 3–12 in a school, childcare, camp, tutoring, or similar setting.
  • Must be proficient in English.
  • Demonstrated ability to be an independent solutions-oriented problem-solver.
  • Commitment to demonstrate love and joy towards students, colleagues, and the work.
  • Willing, hard-working attitude with a growth mindset toward self, students, and colleagues.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with students with disabilities or diverse learning needs is strongly preferred.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Understanding of the different levels of age-appropriate student development.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one, small-group, and whole-class instructional support under the direction of the Special Education Teacher.
  • Assist in implementing students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), accommodations, modifications, and behavior support plans.
  • Support students' academic, communication, social-emotional, and functional skill development.
  • Reinforce positive behavior and help maintain a structured, safe, and supportive classroom environment.
  • Assist students with transitions, routines, and daily classroom activities.
  • Collect and document student progress and behavior data as directed by the Special Education Teacher.
  • Prepare instructional materials and support classroom organization.
  • Collaborate with teachers, related service providers, and families to support student success.
  • Embrace and foster inclusion, equity, and high expectations for all students.
  • Participate in required evening events throughout the school year, including APTT, Expo, family home visits, and other school events.
  • Attend at least one family or community event annually, such as Orientation, Prospective Family Information Sessions, or Family Potlucks.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
