About The Position

Duke University School of Medicine, established in 1930, is a highly-ranked medical institution known for its inclusive community and interdisciplinary collaboration. It is part of Duke Health, a world-class academic medical center. The School of Medicine is seeking an Associate in Research with expertise in deep learning to contribute to a research program focused on developing and applying machine learning tools to medical imaging. This role involves working within the Duke Spark community, where AI researchers and physicians collaborate on clinical problems.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. (or equivalent) in computer science, electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, statistics, or a related field.
  • Expertise and experience in machine learning.
  • Proficiency in computer programming.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior publications on the topics of machine learning, computer vision, and medical imaging.

Responsibilities

  • Apply technical skills to the development, implementation, and evaluation of machine learning, computer vision, and other algorithms, primarily in the context of health.
  • Participate in the development and evaluation of foundation models and deep learning algorithms for detection, segmentation, and classification.
  • Work on problems in the domains of radiology, surgery, cardiology, and oncology.
  • Improve engineering skills and gain familiarity with current healthcare problems.
