About The Position

Founded in 1969, the Society for Neuroscience (SfN) now has more than 36,000 members in more than 95 countries. Year-round programming includes the publishing of two highly regarded scientific journals, JNeurosci and eNeuro; professional development resources and career training through Neuronline¸ the Society’s home for learning and discussion; science advocacy and public policy engagement including annual Capitol Hill Day; and a variety of engaging public outreach efforts, led by the expanding and interactive collection of public-facing resources on BrainFacts.org. SfN’s annual meeting regularly attracts more than 30,000 attendees, representing 80 countries; 536 exhibiting companies; and close to 300 journalists. SfN exists to: 1. Advance scientific exchange; 2. Support the neuroscience community; 3. Educate and engage the public; and 4. Advocate for the field. The Digital Engagement Associate I collaborates across SfN’s departments to help develop engaging email communications to attract and retain member audiences and contributes to implementation of SfN’s overall digital strategy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; communications or relevant degree of study preferred.
  • 1-2 years of work experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of email best practices, digital strategy, and omnichannel campaigns.
  • Demonstrated experience in writing, editing, planning, and developing content for various platforms including digital newsletters and other emails.
  • Familiarity with email platforms, with preference given to HubSpot experience.
  • Experience working with data and reporting to internal stakeholders.
  • Must be able to work under tight deadlines while achieving a high standard of quality and accuracy.
  • Must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive in solving problems.
  • Must be able to set priorities and work independently.
  • The ability to partner with other functions to create/implement solutions with supervisors' oversight.
  • Demonstrated effective business communication (written and verbal) and presentation skills.
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced, small team environment is essential and required, including handling many projects at once and being flexible in prioritizing assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the Digital Communications Manager, this role will serve as the primary staff member to prepare and schedule member email newsletters and other audience specific SfN emails, including the curation of content, email formatting, proofreading, and testing in HubSpot.
  • Collaborates with the Manager to develop email content and editorial calendars that enhance user engagement through email via HubSpot.
  • Contributes to the implementation of email communications strategies to increase website traffic or engagement with SfN’s other digital content.
  • Acts as the HubSpot data hygiene steward by supporting or conducting training on digital communications and best practices for SfN digital content contributors, supporting consistency with messaging tone and style, updating email templates, and maintaining the quality and integrity of customer records data.
  • Compiles and maintains email analytics and reports, communicates key findings to internal stakeholders, and provides recommendations for email performance improvement.
  • Supports identifying needs and recommending new digital communications tools and software. Serves as point of contact as needed on implementation and use.
  • Acts as day-to-day contact for digital communication software vendors, like HubSpot.
  • Coordinates a selection of promotional campaigns for Digital Strategy with multi-channel needs, working closely with internal stakeholders.
  • Develops an understanding of SfN programs, departments, and functional areas and their impact on the organization.
  • Supports Digital Strategy preparation and needs for the SfN annual meeting.
  • Supports social media scheduling and data reporting using Vista Social, and other social media duties as assigned.
