About The Position

The Associate HVAC Mechanic is an entry-to-mid-level position responsible for performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of HVAC systems with a primary focus on heat pumps and residential HVAC equipment. This role supports the reliable operation and energy efficiency of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems serving military housing units. The ideal candidate will have 1–2 years of hands-on experience in HVAC maintenance and a strong desire to grow within the trade while delivering high-quality service to military families.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or an equivalent is required.
  • Formal training from a trade or vocational school.
  • Type 2 or higher EPA certification is required.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and climb ladders.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • 1–2 years of verifiable experience in HVAC maintenance and repair (residential or light commercial preferred).
  • Demonstrated experience working on heat pumps is strongly preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical systems, refrigeration theory, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, equipment manuals, and technical specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on heat pumps and associated HVAC equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair malfunctions in heat pump systems, including refrigerant leaks, defrost cycle issues, reversing valves, compressors, and electrical components.
  • Troubleshoot and repair residential HVAC systems, thermostats, and related controls.
  • Respond promptly to service calls and emergency work orders to restore heating and cooling to occupied housing units.
  • Maintain accurate digital and written records of maintenance performed, parts used, and equipment conditions.
  • Assist senior technicians with major repairs, installations, and system upgrades as needed.
  • Ensure all work complies with manufacturer specifications, EPA regulations, and base housing standards.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and professional work environment, with strong attention to resident safety and property protection.
  • Provide courteous and professional customer service to military residents and command staff.
  • Follow all safety protocols and procedures, including OSHA guidelines and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO).
