About The Position

North Park University, a member of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW), is seeking a qualified applicant for the position of Associate Head Cross Country Coach. This is a twelve-month, full-time role responsible for all aspects of the men's and women's cross country programs, including recruitment, retention, coaching, scheduling, team travel, and budgeting. North Park University, founded in 1891 and affiliated with the Evangelical Covenant Church, serves over 3,200 students in Chicago's diverse Albany Park neighborhood. The university's mission is to prepare students for lives of significance and service through education in the liberal arts, professional studies, and theology, with a vision centered on being Christian, city-centered, and intercultural.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Previous coaching experience and knowledge of the sports of cross country and track at the collegiate level are required.
  • Candidate must demonstrate strong attention to detail and possess excellent organizational and planning skills.
  • Able to lift and move athletic equipment.
  • Able to travel with team, by vehicle or plane.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.
  • Possess a clear understanding and personal commitment to North Park’s mission of Christian higher education.

Responsibilities

  • Reports to the Director of Track and Field and Cross Country.
  • Oversee the daily operations of the men’s and women’s cross country programs at North Park University.
  • Serve as an assistant coach for the men’s and women’s track and field programs at North Park University.
  • Provide on-site coaching in meets and practices, including organization and implementation of daily training schedules for all team members.
  • Manage all phases of competitive NCAA and CCIW compliant recruiting.
  • Supervise, develop, and evaluate part-time, volunteer, or graduate assistant coaches.
  • Ensure a strong commitment to the academic success of cross country and track student-athletes, including monitoring academic performance, attendance, and social behavior.
  • Build and sustain positive relationships with student-athletes, parents, alumni, faculty, staff, and the campus community.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the Director of Track and Field and Cross Country, Assistant Vice President for Athletics and Sport Management, and Associate and Assistant Athletic Directors.
