About The Position

This position assists the Head Coach in the leadership and management of the women's Softball program with the goal of achieving successful outcomes, including recruiting elite student-athletes, training and coaching to contend for national and conference championships. The Assistant or Associate Head Coach is critically involved in all aspects of the program, is given specific autonomy, and shares responsibilities with the Head Coach in key areas such as recruiting, practice planning, player training and development, coordination of team play, and coaching tactics/strategies. The role proactively promotes the academic, personal, and social development of student-athletes, recruits and coaches with the objective of attaining the highest possible outcomes in NCAA competition while maintaining program integrity, and employs high professional standards, ethical behaviors, and adherence to UT Athletics, University, Conference, and NCAA rules. Additionally, the position provides high-profile and positive public relations and communication with a wide variety of institutional and sport constituencies. The role also assists the Head Coach in designing a competitive schedule, leading and managing administration, logistics, support staff, and business functions, including budgeting. The position requires exemplary adherence to core values and quality service standards, ethical conduct, proactive seeking of guidance on laws, rules, or policies, and active participation in education and training programs. Compliance with all applicable laws, policies, rules, and regulations is mandatory. Annual approval and reporting of outside activities and income are required. Reporting of any known or reasonably suspected violations of laws, policies, rules, or regulations is mandatory, along with full cooperation in any investigation. This position may be designated as a Non-Confidential Employee under Title IX, requiring reporting of specific prohibited conduct.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Successful experience as an assistant or head coach at an elite level.
  • Experience coaching NCAA championship-caliber student-athletes.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills to enhance interaction with student-athletes, peers, alumni, administrative personnel, and the community.
  • Demonstrated professional demeanor.
  • Technological proficiency.
  • Demonstrated the ability to provide critical thinking and consultation to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Current and working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations relating to student-athletes and the recruiting of student-athletes.
  • Demonstrated commitment to The University of Texas Intercollegiate Athletics Core Values: Integrity, Excellence, Teamwork, Community Engagement, Creativity, Accountability and Loyalty.
  • Class "C" operator's driver's license.
  • Provide a current three-year driving record from the current state of residence.
  • Obtain a Texas driver's license within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident (if not currently a Texas resident).

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head Coach in recruiting, training, motivating, and developing elite student-athletes in the sport of softball.
  • Proactively promote the academic, personal, and social development of student-athletes.
  • Recruit and coach with the objective of attaining the highest possible outcomes in NCAA competition while maintaining integrity of the program.
  • Employ high professional standards, ethical behaviors, and adherence to UT Athletics, University, Conference, and NCAA rules.
  • Provide high profile and positive public relations and communication with a wide variety of institutional and sport constituencies, including softball professionals and coaches at all levels (club, high school), alumni, letter winners, media, students, student families, fans, Texas Athletics colleagues and others.
  • Assist the Head Coach in the design of a competitive schedule to maximize team and individual player development and performance.
  • Assist the Head Coach in leading and managing administration, logistics, support staff and business functions, including budgeting, of the Softball program.
  • Consistently exemplify the core values and quality service standards of Texas Athletics.
  • Always act ethically.
  • Proactively seek guidance when unsure or unclear of a law, rule or policy applicable to you or your department/sport program.
  • Actively participate in assigned education and training programs.
  • Comply with all laws, policies, rules and regulations set forth by the Board of Regents of The University of Texas System, The University of Texas at Austin, NCAA, Conference, or other governing body, including state and federal laws.
  • Annually obtain prior written approval and report all outside activities and outside income.
  • Report knowledge of, or reasonable cause to believe, violation(s) of state or federal laws, policies, rules, or regulations of the University, Conference, or NCAA to IA ARMCS or IA HR.
  • Fully cooperate with any investigation by providing complete and accurate information when requested to do so by Texas Athletics and/or the NCAA and do not influence others in any way during an investigation.
  • As a Non-Confidential Employee, individuals employed in this position will report incidents of sex discrimination, sexual harassment, sexual assault, interpersonal violence, and stalking to the University’s Title IX Coordinator or Deputy Title IX Coordinator as required by applicable law or University policy.
