About The Position

We’re looking for a Sacramento, CA based Associate GIS Analyst to join our GIS team. In this role, you’ll support real-world conservation and restoration projects by turning geospatial data into clear, accurate maps and tools used by scientists, field crews, and decision-makers. You’ll work closely with the GIS Manager and senior GIS staff, gaining hands-on experience with GIS analysis, web mapping, mobile data collection, and field technologies. This is a great opportunity for someone early in their GIS career who enjoys variety, learning new tools, and seeing their work directly impact conservation outcomes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Environmental Science, or a related field or a GIS Certificate from a 1–2 year program
  • 1–2 years of GIS-related experience (work or hands-on coursework)
  • Experience with ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and/or Esri mobile apps (Field Maps, Survey123)
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow documented workflows
  • Comfort juggling multiple tasks while meeting deadlines
  • Curiosity, technical aptitude, and a willingness to learn new tools
  • A service mindset and desire to support both internal and external partners
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with a close-knit team

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Experience Builder, Story Maps, Field Maps Designer
  • Know how to create metadata and GIS documentation
  • Intermediate Excel skills
  • Coursework or experience in remote sensing or raster data
  • Background in habitat, species, land use, soils, or parcel data
  • Experience using AI tools or building AI workflows for data analysis
  • Exposure to web mapping technologies (e.g., JavaScript)

Responsibilities

  • Create high-quality print and online maps showing site conditions, habitat, hydrology, species occurrences, and project designs
  • Build and maintain ArcGIS Online web maps and datasets used by field teams and project managers
  • Assist with spatial and raster analysis to support project planning and decision-making
  • Research, obtain, and organize publicly available geospatial datasets
  • Support and maintain historic species and property data
  • Coordinate with field crews to download, QC, correct, and digitize field data
  • Provide first-level support for GPS and mobile data collection tools (Trimble GPS, iPads, Eos Arrow GNSS)
  • Participate in field work, including GPS data collection and drone flights, as needed
  • Support business development by preparing data for modeling and scenario analysis
  • Pitch in where needed—this is a team that shares responsibilities and works cross-functionally
