About The Position

Exelon is hiring a management-level attorney to provide strategic legal leadership, advocacy, and compliance related to regulatory litigation, administrative law, and policy. The role leads and provides strategic direction to attorneys and paralegals delivering legal services for Delmarva Power & Light (DPL), Atlantic City Electric (ACE), and Pepco Holdings, Inc. (PHI), with a focus on electric utility regulation in Delaware and New Jersey.

This hybrid position requires working in the office at least three days per week—Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday—and the ability to commute within the Newark, Delaware service area. The attorney provides legal services as practicing counsel, manages relationships and matters with Exelon and the relevant business units, and helps achieve company objectives while managing risks.

Requirements

• LLB or JD from an accredited law school.
• Licensed to practice law in at least one PHI jurisdiction: New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, or the District of Columbia.
• At least 12 years of professional experience and widely recognized distinction in the attorney’s specialty practice.
• Comprehensive knowledge of the legal field applied to complex assignments.
• Extensive knowledge of courts, regulatory agencies, and other applicable legal entities.
• Experience in project management and supervision of lower-level professionals.
• Ability to commute within the Newark, Delaware service area.

Nice To Haves

• Extensive knowledge of electric utility regulatory law or comparable administrative or litigation law, preferably in New Jersey and/or Delaware.
• At least five years of managerial experience leading a group of legal professionals, including other managers.
• Ability to distill complex, high-stakes information into concise, actionable strategic advice for senior management.
• Record of successful oral advocacy in complex litigation, mediations, or regulatory proceedings, including arguing motions, cross-examination, and oral arguments.
• Experience with internal investigations, regulatory audits, and/or appeals.
• License to practice law in New Jersey and/or Delaware.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic and legal direction and guidance to business partners on all aspects of regulatory litigation, and advise corporate officers and executives on related legal issues.
• Represent DPL, ACE, PHI, and Exelon in dealings with outside law firms, government representatives and agencies, independent technical experts, court representatives, and others in the legal profession, as delegated by the Vice President and General Counsel.
• Manage, monitor, and support the career development of attorneys and paralegals; ensure appropriate evaluation procedures are conducted and supervise lower-level attorney and paralegal staff.
• Prepare and revise budgets and early matter assessments for matters involving outside counsel.
• Work with the broader Exelon legal function to continually improve delivery of legal services for New Jersey and Delaware regulatory litigation.
• Perform significant projects and other duties as assigned by the General Counsel.
• Manage relationships and matters with Exelon and ACE, DPL, and PHI business units, and work with them to achieve company objectives and manage risks.
