About The Position

Zelis is seeking an Associate General Counsel (Healthcare Privacy Counsel) to provide strategic legal guidance on data privacy, security, and technology matters across its platform serving payers, providers, and healthcare consumers. Reporting to the VP, Managing Counsel, Technology, this role is central to advising on HIPAA, state privacy laws, offshoring, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity obligations. The Associate General Counsel will partner closely with information technology, product, and business teams to support technology transactions, data use, and privacy protection initiatives. Responsibilities include developing and implementing privacy policies, advising on compliance with evolving regulations, supporting incident response, and negotiating commercial contracts with privacy and security provisions. The role also involves guiding business stakeholders on data rights, AI, and privacy issues, and collaborating with outside counsel as needed.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of legal experience, including in-house exposure.
  • Strong background in healthcare privacy frameworks such as HIPAA, state privacy laws, TCPA, and CAN-SPAM.
  • Experience assessing legal risks related to data protection, AI, and privacy.
  • Experience negotiating technology contracts.
  • A J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to practice law.
