About The Position

Schneider Electric has a hybrid opportunity (2 -3 days from the office) for an Associate General Counsel – Employee Benefits in one of the following Schneider Electric offices: Boston, MA; Nashville, TN; Dallas, TX, Raleigh, NC; or Westmont, IL. This role will provide legal advice and support across a broad spectrum of employee benefits and executive compensation matters. In this role, you will be part of the North American Legal team for Schneider Electric, a Global Fortune 500 Company.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school in the U.S.
  • Bar admission in at least one state.
  • At least five to seven years of legal experience in the employee benefits and executive compensation space, including, but not limited to, ERISA, the Internal Revenue Code (the Code), HIPAA, ACA, federal and state laws applicable to pharmacy benefits managers (PBMs), and Code Section 409A.
  • Strong negotiation skills, attention to detail, integrity mindset, high-energy, can-do attitude, tenacity, team spirit and attitude, proactive, collaborative, strong communication skills in multi-cultural environment, ability to translate complex legal advice into clear and actionable guidance for client teams.
  • Lifelong learner mindset with a hunger to stay current on legal, technology and business trends, intellectually curious, willing to take on new responsibilities and try new challenges.
  • Strong commitment to serving as an engaged partner to the business and the legal team on all things employee benefits and executive compensation.

Nice To Haves

  • Law firm experience will be considered; prior in-house counsel experience within a corporate legal department is a plus; prior law firm and/or in-house counsel experience working with a large employer with multiple subsidiaries and affiliates is also a plus.
  • Experience in employee benefits and executive compensation matters in Canada is a plus.
  • Interest in, or prior experience with, general employment advice and counsel outside of the benefits space is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality legal advice on U.S. laws applicable to retirement plans (qualified and non-qualified), health and welfare plans, and select executive compensation and fringe benefit matters (collectively, Plans and Programs).
  • Serve as a trusted partner for the Human Resources, Treasury, and other internal client teams in the design, implementation, and administration of the Plans and Programs.
  • Advise and counsel the Company’s plan administration and investment committees in both their fiduciary and settlor capacities.
  • Support benefits and executive compensation matters in Company M&A activity.
  • Proactively analyze legislative and regulatory developments and counsel internal clients on compliant implementation strategies that align with business objectives.
  • Work with internal clients and colleagues in the North American Legal Department to negotiate complex benefit plan service provider agreements and amendments and advise and counsel internal clients on RFPs related to such vendors.
  • Manage benefits-related litigation and regulatory agency audits or inquiries.
  • Provide benefits-related training to internal clients and committees (e.g., fiduciary and HIPAA trainings).
  • Provide legal training to business clients as directed by manager.
