About The Position

The Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto is seeking applicants for the position of Advisor, Postgraduate Education and Program Development. This is a department-wide educational leadership position that plays a crucial role in supporting the success of the department's postgraduate residency programs. The Advisor will work closely with the Vice Chair, Education, Residency Program Directors, Department leadership, and the postgraduate administrative team. Responsibilities include providing leadership in Program Director development, accreditation readiness, curriculum and assessment practices, continuous quality improvement, and the implementation of shared postgraduate education priorities across the Department. The Advisor reports directly to the Vice Chair, Education. This is a three-year term appointment with the possibility of one renewal. The anticipated start date is October 15, 2026, or another mutually agreed upon date. The University of Toronto's Department of Medicine oversees one of Canada's largest postgraduate medical education portfolios, encompassing PGY1 and PGY4-entry Royal College residency programs across multiple teaching hospitals and affiliated academic divisions. The Department is dedicated to excellence in postgraduate education through innovation, collaboration, continuous quality improvement, and the development of outstanding educational leaders.

Requirements

  • Eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the University of Toronto.
  • Successful completion of the Continuing Faculty Appointment Review (CFAR).
  • Hold an MD degree.
  • Certified by, or eligible for certification with, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
  • Eligible for licensure in Ontario.
  • Respected clinician educator with demonstrated leadership in postgraduate medical education.
  • Experience as a Residency Program Director or other significant educational leadership role.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships across programs and institutions.
  • Strong understanding of Royal College accreditation standards.
  • Strong understanding of competency-based medical education.
  • Strong understanding of curriculum development.
  • Strong understanding of assessment practices.
  • Strong understanding of program quality improvement.
