Remote | Associate Forward Deployed Engineer — $40–$60/hour
About The Position
This full-time, fully remote junior engineering role supports customer data ingestion, data-transfer workflows, validation, monitoring, documentation, and operational delivery. The engineer works alongside more experienced Forward Deployed Engineers to execute clearly scoped technical workflows under established procedures and with guidance. Work includes preparing and transferring customer datasets, monitoring ingestion, validating results, identifying issues, and escalating matters that fall outside runbooks or expected conditions. The role also involves communicating status and handoffs with customers and internal stakeholders, maintaining operational documentation, and handling sensitive customer data carefully in production and customer-facing processes. Compensation is $40–$60 per hour. Work must be completed without using confidential or proprietary information belonging to any employer, client, institution, or other third party.
Requirements
- Strong ownership, reliability, and attention to detail.
- Technical aptitude and ability to learn new tools and systems quickly.
- Familiarity with Python, SQL, APIs, or data-processing workflows.
- Clear and concise written communication skills.
- Ability to follow structured technical processes and recognise when escalation is required.
- Good judgement when handling customer data and production systems.
- Comfort working independently on clearly scoped technical tasks.
- Reliability and availability for scoped technical work.

- Experience with large datasets or data pipelines.
- Familiarity with cloud storage and data-transfer workflows.

- Experience debugging technical problems using logs or monitoring tools.
- Familiarity with common data formats such as JSON, CSV, or Parquet.
- Previous experience in a startup, technical operations, implementation, or customer-facing engineering environment.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, size, and transfer customer datasets through defined technical workflows.
- Execute and monitor data-ingestion processes according to established procedures.
- Validate completed transfers and confirm that expected data has been processed correctly.
- Identify discrepancies, incomplete transfers, failures, delays, or unexpected system behaviour.
- Review ingestion results for data quality, completeness, and consistency.
- Use logs, monitoring information, and available diagnostic tools to investigate technical issues.
- Recognise issues outside established runbooks or expected operating conditions and escalate them with clear supporting context.
- Communicate status, blockers, outcomes, and required follow-up to customers and internal teams.
- Coordinate handoffs between engineering, operations, and customer-facing stakeholders.
- Document decisions, exceptions, outstanding actions, and technical handoffs accurately.
- Follow documented runbooks and operating procedures.
- Handle sensitive customer data carefully and in accordance with established requirements.
- Apply sound judgement when working with production systems and customer-facing technical processes.
