About The Position

Big Bend Community College (BBCC) is seeking applications for Associate Faculty positions in Automotive Instructor. This role involves preparing and teaching courses in Automotive. The position reports to the Dean of Workforce Education and collaborates with other faculty and staff. Requirements

Associate degree in Automotive Technology or a closely related field; OR an equivalent combination of education, industry experience, and relevant certifications.
Three (3) years of recent professional experience in automotive service, repair, diagnostics, or related automotive industry work.
Demonstrated knowledge of current automotive repair practices, diagnostic procedures, vehicle systems, and industry standards.
Experience working effectively with individuals from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, and ability backgrounds.
Ability to teach both classroom and laboratory-based automotive courses.

Nice To Haves

ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certifications in one or more automotive specialty areas.
Master Automobile Technician certification.
Experience teaching Automotive Technology at a community or technical college.
Experience implementing innovative teaching, training, and student engagement strategies that improve student success and retention.
Experience with online learning, hybrid instruction, video conferencing, Canvas, or other Learning Management Systems.
Experience utilizing modern automotive diagnostic equipment, scan tools, and computerized vehicle systems.
Experience with program accreditation, industry advisory committees, or curriculum development.
Experience working with non-traditional students.
Ability to develop partnerships with automotive employers to promote internships, apprenticeships, and workforce opportunities.

Responsibilities

Prepare and teach assigned Fall Quarter Automotive Technology courses in accordance with approved curriculum, industry standards, and program requirements.
Teach courses including: Automotive Engine Service, Automotive Shop Safety and Environmental Issues, Manual Drive Train and Axles, and Skills Laboratory I.
Utilize best practices for teaching, engaging, and motivating students to succeed.
Meet class times as required by the quarterly schedule and assist students with course-related questions.
Utilize Canvas (the learning management system) to provide students access to course materials and the course gradebook.
Support student academic success by maintaining regular office hours.
Refer students to appropriate college resources as needed.
Foster a flexible, healthy learning environment with respect for student diversity.
Adapt to a variety of teaching situations, including diverse student abilities and preparedness.
Maintain positive and effective communication with students.
Maintain and submit grades and attendance reports to college personnel when required.
Post syllabi quarterly to the Big Bend Portal for each course taught.
Maintain student course materials for two (2) quarters beyond the quarter of attendance.
Submit assessment data in consultation with a full-time faculty member in the department.
Assist with the development, selection, and/or recommendation of instructional materials for courses being taught.
Demonstrate, teach, and enforce proper lab techniques, safe work habits, and safety rules in the labs.
