About The Position

Qualified applicants have the potential to start at the Associate Engineer II level. The City of Casper is looking for motivated and detail-oriented civil engineers to join our Engineering Department. As an Associate Engineer, you'll support public improvement projects that make a lasting impact on the community, from developing construction cost estimates to reviewing private development plans and inspecting ongoing projects. Incumbents are responsible for providing entry-level professional engineering support to public improvement projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (or related field)
  • Strong knowledge of AutoCAD, engineering principles, and construction practices
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices, and standards.
  • Knowledge of construction materials, principles, and practices.
  • Knowledge of mathematical principles.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, computers and related software applications.
  • Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to operate modern office equipment, software, and operating systems/applications.
  • Ability to learn, interpret, and explain City policies and procedures.
  • Ability to analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions, and implement recommendations in support of goals.
  • Ability to prepare and present clear and concise reports.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and direction.
  • Ability to follow applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, and regulations.

  • No previous experience required for Associate Engineer I.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in civil engineering or a closely related field for Associate Engineer I.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in professional engineering for Associate Engineer II.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in civil engineering or a closely related field for Associate Engineer II.

Nice To Haves

  • PE license preferred for Associate Engineer II
  • A valid Wyoming Driver’s License is preferred for Associate Engineer I.
  • Registration as an Engineer-In-Training with the State of Wyoming preferred for Associate Engineer I.
  • A valid Wyoming Driver’s License is preferred for Associate Engineer II.
  • Valid Certificate of Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Wyoming for Associate Engineer II.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with the development of construction project cost estimates; prepares requests for proposals and project plans/specifications; reviews consultant/contractor proposals; and recommends selection of consultants/contractors.
  • Inspects construction and field reviews in progress to determine compliance with designs; and initiates change orders.
  • Reviews permit requests, plans, specifications and contract documents from private developers; determines compliance with codes, ordinances and laws.
  • Maintains records of activities and prepares financial and operational reports.
  • Represents the City of Casper by responding to the public, citizens, its employees, and others in a prompt, professional, and courteous manner while continuously maintaining a positive customer service demeanor.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
