The Civil Engineer I or II performs professional engineering work supporting the planning, design, permitting, construction, and maintenance of a variety of municipal infrastructure projects. This role contributes to the delivery of public improvement projects that enhance the Town’s transportation, utility, stormwater, and public works systems while supporting responsible community growth and development. Working as part of the Engineering Services Division, the Civil Engineer I or II assists with or leads the design and construction management of projects involving streets, sidewalks, pedestrian safety improvements, storm drainage systems, stormwater management facilities, water distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, and other public infrastructure. The position also supports development review activities by evaluating private land development plans for compliance with Town standards and applicable regulations. The Civil Engineer I or II collaborates with contractors, consultants, developers, regulatory agencies, Town departments, and the public to coordinate projects from conception through completion. Responsibilities include project scheduling, engineering design, construction administration, permitting coordination, development review, infrastructure planning, technical reporting, and public engagement. Depending on experience level, the Civil Engineer I may work under closer supervision while developing professional engineering knowledge and municipal project experience. The Civil Engineer II exercises greater independent judgment in managing projects, coordinating consultants, reviewing development proposals, and providing technical expertise related to municipal infrastructure and engineering services.
