About The Position

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has an opening for an Associate Division Leader (ADL) for the Engineering Test and Explosive Components (ETEC) section. In this role, you will provide technical engineering expertise and leadership to group leaders and staff within the section by administratively leading multidisciplinary teams responsible for meeting Strategic Deterrence (SD) programmatic deliverables. You will be responsible for administratively managing a broad organizational area with one or more technical disciplines that impact Laboratory resources, while supporting execution of section goals, workforce development, and operational performance. This position is in the Defense Technologies Engineering Division (DTED), within the Engineering Directorate. This position may offer a hybrid schedule, blending in-person and virtual presence, with the flexibility to work from home one or more days per week.

Requirements

  • Active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at the time of hire.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or related technical field, or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Extensive experience resolving complex problems and developing, planning, and coordinating solutions in an engineering or technical environment.
  • Extensive experience in engineering project or organizational leadership, including work planning, scheduling, cost estimating, budget management, risk identification and management, and status reporting.
  • Experience managing and leading multidisciplinary technical teams, often through technical staff leaders or equivalent supervisory structures, to achieve organizational objectives and meet organizational and customer requirements.
  • Advanced knowledge of leadership, management, and organizational development principles and methods applied to the direction of a broad technical organization or functional area.
  • Expert communication, facilitation, collaboration, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills necessary to direct an organization, build cooperative multidisciplinary teams, interact effectively with management and internal or external customers and sponsors.

Nice To Haves

  • Significant experience in payroll supervision, preparation of performance reviews, alignment and salary management, and knowledge of Engineering Directorate policies and procedures.
  • Broad knowledge of the programmatic activities associated with the SD Principal Associate Directorate.
  • Significant experience with the NNSA Nuclear Security Enterprise.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership and management oversight of staff within the ETEC section; directing, mentoring, and guiding group leaders and staff in the areas of performance management, reviews, and alignment, salary management, career development, and support for continued learning opportunities.
  • Identify, formulate, execute, and manage performance standards for the ETEC organization while maintaining consistency with DTED and Directorate expectations and effectively executing programmatic milestones.
  • Lead, promote, and ensure the proper application of Laboratory and DTED policies and procedures, including safety, security, and compliance.
  • Participate and contribute to the development, implementation, and execution of strategic plans and long-term programmatic goals for the ETEC section, working in collaboration with senior DTED and programmatic management to ensure consistency with Directorate and Laboratory strategy.
  • Collaborate with DTED senior management and SD programmatic stakeholders to strategically evaluate and manage current and future workforce needs, support recruitment, and help maintain a motivated, well-trained, and sustainable workforce.
  • Interact, communicate, and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders regarding matters of significance to the organization, applying expert problem solving, analytical, technical, organizational, and management skills to independently advise, recommend, approve appropriate actions, and implement solutions needed to achieve section and division objectives.
