About The Position

Leidos is seeking an Associate Distribution Engineer to work in either their Framingham, MA office or the New Hampshire area. This role offers the opportunity to gain experience in NESC expertise, Structural Pole Modeling, Electrical Power Calculations, GIS Design, and interactions with other disciplines such as Substation, Protection & Controls, and Civil Structural. The position involves developing construction work packages for electric distribution systems (OH, UG, or URD environments) for new business and reliability designs. This includes using various software systems like Bentley Open utilities Design, CAD, GIS, and WMS. The role requires performing engineering calculations for pole analysis, guying, cable pulling, electric demand, transformer sizing, voltage drop, flicker, and protective device coordination. Additional tasks may include preparing forestry trimming requests, facilitating permit and Right-of-Way acquisition, developing Bills of Materials (BOM), estimating costs, and customer advocacy like acquiring easements. Field investigations via motor vehicle are also a part of the work assignments. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering discipline or related field.
  • Six plus (6+) months of prior relevant experience working directly with an electric utility or with a consulting/contracting company performing design engineering for electric utilities.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Willingness to perform both field and office work.

Responsibilities

  • Develop construction work packages for the electric distribution system using various software systems and construction standards.
  • Perform engineering calculations that may include: structural analysis of poles, guying, cable pulling, electric demand, transformer sizing, voltage drop and flicker, and coordination of protective devices.
  • Prepare forestry trimming requests.
  • Facilitate permit and Right-of-Way acquisition.
  • Develop a BOM (Bill of Materials).
  • Estimate costs.
  • Engage in customer advocacy such as acquiring easements.
  • Travel by motor vehicle to various project locations to conduct field investigations.
