About The Position

Leidos is seeking an Associate Distribution Engineer to work in either their Framingham, MA office or the New Hampshire area. In this role, the engineer will gain experience in NESC expertise, structural pole modeling, electrical power calculations, GIS design, and interactions with other disciplines such as Substation, Protection & Controls, and Civil Structural. This position involves developing construction work packages for electric distribution systems (OH, UG, or URD environments) for new business and reliability projects. Work packages will be created using Bentley Open Utilities Design, CAD, GIS, WMS, and other client systems. The role requires performing engineering calculations including structural analysis of poles, guying, cable pulling, electric demand, transformer sizing, voltage drop and flicker, and coordination of protective devices. Additional tasks may include preparing forestry trimming requests, facilitating permit and Right-of-Way acquisition, developing a Bill of Materials (BOM), estimating costs, and customer advocacy like acquiring easements. Field investigations will also be a part of the work assignments, requiring travel by motor vehicle to various project locations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering discipline or related field.
  • Six plus (6+) months of prior relevant experience working directly with an electric utility or with a consulting/contracting company performing design engineering for electric utilities.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Willingness to perform both field and office work.

Responsibilities

  • Develop construction work packages for the electric distribution system using various software systems and construction standards.
