About The Position

Leidos is seeking Associate Distribution Engineers in the Southern Louisiana area who are passionate about electric utility design engineering. The role focuses on ensuring exceptional quality in all projects and maintaining Leidos' reputation for high-quality work by directly collaborating with clients. Successful candidates will gain expertise in NESC, Structural Pole Modeling, Electrical Power Calculations, GIS design training, Field Data Collection, and Client Design Standards. This position offers remote-working capabilities but requires candidates to be located within a commutable distance of Southern Louisiana (New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Lafayette) to support local utility customers, with expectations for in-person meetings and assignments as needed. Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET accredited institution; additional relevant experience/certifications may be considered in lieu of bachelor's degree
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) required
  • Ability to provide your own reliable transportation, as some customer-related travel may be anticipated (Job-related travel will be reimbursed at IRS-approved rates)
  • Ability to demonstrate strong written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with NESC Standards, ESRI, AutoCAD and/or MicroStation, and GIS a plus

Responsibilities

  • Support design engineering efforts for electric utility projects, assisting with individual design tasks and quality control activities under guidance from senior engineers
  • Assist in developing work packages for OH, UG, URD, Make Ready, and Street Light projects using customer GIS and Work Management systems
  • Collaborate with engineers and design leads to address client needs, supporting scope, schedule, and quality objectives
  • Participate in reviewing engineering design packages and contribute to planning, documentation, and customer follow-up activities
  • Assist with scope analysis of assigned work and help maintain schedule adherence to support client priorities
  • Continuously build technical knowledge of utility standards, design practices, and internal processes
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance workflow efficiency and support high-quality design deliverables
  • Assist in coordinating with utilities and field engineering teams to support design requirements, helping develop design packages for cable/conduit projects in urban environments
  • Support activities related to work permits, easements, and right-of-way (ROW) applications under guidance from senior team members
  • Be comfortable in both a field and office setting: the role may require some customer-site visits to collect field data that will assist in developing work packages
  • Be available for customer-facing activities and/or meetings on an as-needed basis (Job related travel will be reimbursed at IRS-approved rates)
