About The Position

Leidos is seeking an Associate Distribution Engineer to work in either their Framingham, MA office or the New Hampshire area. This position involves gaining experience in NESC expertise, Structural Pole Modeling, Electrical Power Calculations, GIS Design, and interactions with other disciplines such as Substation, Protection & Controls, and Civil Structural. The role initially requires working approximately 6 months as a temporary contractor, with the possibility of converting to a direct Leidos employee. The successful candidate will develop construction work packages for electric distribution systems (OH, UG, or URD environments) for new business and reliability designs. This involves using various software systems and construction standards, including Bentley Open utilities Design, CAD tools, GIS, WMS, and other client systems. The role also requires performing engineering calculations for structural analysis of poles, guying, cable pulling, electric demand, transformer sizing, voltage drop and flicker, and coordination of protective devices. Additional assignments include preparing forestry trimming requests, facilitating permit and Right-of-Way acquisition, developing Bills of Material (BOM), estimating costs, and customer advocacy. Field investigations requiring travel by motor vehicle to project locations are also part of the job. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering discipline or related field
  • Six plus (6+) months of prior relevant experience working directly with an electric utility or with a consulting/contracting company performing design engineering for electric utilities
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Willingness to perform both field and office work

Responsibilities

  • Develop construction work packages for the electric distribution system using various software systems and construction standards
