About The Position

The Associate Dispatcher is a training position for becoming a Distribution Dispatcher in the Duke Energy Florida's Distribution Control Center. The job responsibility of the Associate Distribution Dispatcher is to complete The Dispatcher Qualification Program which typically takes between six to eighteen months. The goal of the program is to develop proficiency in all Distribution Dispatcher functions through the use of various training methods including the classroom, on-the-job training, and field experience. The Distribution Dispatcher functions include operating the electrical distribution system in a safe and reliable manner; monitoring multiple computer applications for system alarms and outages; coordinating and directing switching activities for normal maintenance and power restoration; forming contingency plans to mitigate consequences and implementing contingency plans should an event occur; and dispatching service level work orders to field resources.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must meet one of the following criteria:
  • Journeyman lineman
  • Journeyman electrician-substation
  • System Protection & Control Technician (Relay Tech)
  • 5 years of distribution related experience
  • 3 years distribution related experience and Associate’s Degree in related field
  • 1 year distribution related experience and Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Must pass a two-part pre-employment test: System Operator Power Dispatch test (SO/PD).
  • Progression through the hiring process is contingent upon the SOPD test recommendation and a formal interview.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to comprehend one-line and three-line diagrams.
  • Experience with SCADA and OMS applications.

Responsibilities
